D-Day

People at the work place have all been waiting for this day...and not for a good reason.  This was to hear about further cuts to the organization.  To me, it was a huge one.  And this was on top of a huge cut before.

I'm not here to blast the employer or management.  It is what it is at this time.  But for some, I feel extra sorry for.  Some of them are losing their job and their spouses have also lost their job...and they have kids.  That's scary!  For some, it's not an option to move to another province.   The idea of accumulating that much seniority only to have it thrown out the window and start all over again.

I was prepared for my position to be affected.  For many reasons, I think they would have cut me.  But they didn't.  I am thankful as I can continue as is.  That's huge.

But if they had called my name, I would have felt unsettled.  But change is unsettling but it's not always bad.  The reality is, sometimes it opens doors you never realized.  Or it makes you think and consider other options.

For all my friends and co-workers that were affected already and those affected today, I hope that whatever comes your way turn out to be welcome changes.  May you find a job that feeds your passion and pays the bills.

Things I'm Afraid to Tell You

Well, not me.  I have so many damn faults it seems that it's easier to talk about those instead of what I'm good at!  LOL!

Things I'm Afraid to Tell You is basically a movement on the web to have people more honest in their blogs.  I mean in most blogs, people tell you the "good stuff."  They never tell you what they're afraid of, what they're not good at...basically how they are imperfect.

Like I said, I somewhat air my dirty laundry on here because I only have 9 readers.  So it's not like I'm airing to a ton of people.  Ok, I might have 20 now...but STILL.  It's a very small number of people.

But other blogs obviously have way more people reading them.  And it was so nice to see that many bloggers followed suit and kept up with this movement.  Some of the things I've read are heartbreaking, some are sweet, and some make me feel normal.

The reality is this...the less time you spend trying to hide the fact that you're imperfect, the more you're going to enjoy life.  And believe me, those around you will enjoy and accept you so much more than when you're trying to be perfect.

Trying to be perfect makes you miserable (which again makes people around you dislike you) and it's like living a lie...you keep building on top of it and on top of it to cover up all your mistakes.  Gosh.  That's just exhausting.

So just be.

Here's the website:

Bryan Adams

I'm late with this post...but better late than never.

This past Saturday, I had a date with my husband.  Dinner and a concert.  The date is really a belated birthday gift.  Got him the tickets on his birthday...but concert wasn't until this past Saturday.

We headed off to Granville Island to go to one of our favourite restaurants, Sandbar.   The evening started well considering I was trying to pay for parking and the parking lot attendant said to me that I don't have to worry about it.  He gives everybody a one hour break and it was already 6pm...I'd only have to pay to 7.  Hey, THANKS!  I love free parking.

Got to Sandbar and no wait.  YES.  We love going there as they have the best curried mussels!  It's a great casual feel with great food.   And really, I didn't have to cook.  That's worth the extra dollars.

Off to the concert we went!  Everybody was buzzing.  It's been a while since Bryan Adams has been in town.  I've been to 3 of his concerts before and couldn't wait for this one.  I won't bore you with reviews because there are a gazillion of reviews out there.

But this concert was different in many ways.  First of all, really multigenerational.  I mean, if the guy's musical career has spanned 30 years, then you're going to be hitting all ages for the musical crowd.  It was awesome!

My twitter message got on the big screen.  Not a huge twitter fan, but it was fun to see it up there!

He sang all his classics!  YES.  His show really hasn't changed, but that's what is awesome about his shows.  It's him, his band, singing and performing at their best.  Nothing fancy with the light work...just about the music.

I was sad that there was no encore.  But I thought it was so classy of him to let him band go, him sing a couple of tunes and then go.

So thank you Bryan for an awesome concert!  I can't wait to see you again soon.

Guardian Angels

If anybody was watching and saw the news about a plane crash at Hundred Mile House...2 of the passengers are people that I know.  We are friends with these people.  And many of our friends are friends with them.

When everybody started to do status updates about this crash, it was just insane.  Thank goodness for FB. Never thought I'd say that.

The day after, of course news outlets got their butts up to 100 Mile House to do interviews with them.  Saw them on tv and I'm just so surprised at how "well" they look.  They're walking, talking, smiling.

I had to laugh when Greg said that there were guardian angels looking after them...they probably need a couple of weeks off.

No kidding.  I say it's his dad.  And if it wasn't, thanks to whoever it was.  Glad to know that it wasn't their time yet.

Song

I used to hate Jimmy Fallon. Maybe I wasn't "old" enough to really appreciate his humour. But lately, I've really started to like him. Maybe the rap with President Obama sealed it for me.

Anyways, I was surfing the other day and found this video with Jimmy Fallon, Carly Rae Jepsen and The Roots. Hee hee. Using instruments found in an elementary music room and Jimmy and Carly Rae singing her song "Call Me Maybe." It's a great song...but with these types of instruments? Could be a gong show. I must say...very cute! Though I'm torn by which instrument I would choose....

Mundane Jobs

I love how some people can make the most mundane job so cool. I'd like to see what he can do with other songs.
